At booth #A 124, the technology provider will be demonstrating smart building and IoT solutions based on energy harvesting wireless switches and sensors which deliver the needed data for the digitalization of systems, services and buildings.
Oberhaching, Germany/Barcelona, Spain – September 26, 2018
At IoT Solutions World Congress 2018 in Barcelona (October 16-18, 2018), EnOcean, world leader in energy harvesting wireless technology, presents the abilities of batteryless wireless solutions, only powered by their surroundings, for the Internet of Things (IoT). At booth #A 124 (Gran Via, Hall 2, Level 0), visitors can experience maintenance-free sensors and switches, based on the EnOcean (ISO/IEC 14543-3-1x) and Bluetooth® standard, which offer highest flexibility to deliver reliable sensor data for an increasing digitalization of buildings and their environments. Connected with IoT systems from partners like IBM and Microsoft, the self-powered solutions help optimize the utilization of buildings, create new facility services and business models as well as innovative assisted living and lighting systems.
The Internet of Things (IoT) enables the digital transformation of buildings. The result is a digital building twin that virtually maps the need for use. This leads to automated service processes in facility management, demand-based lighting control, higher energy savings and more individual user satisfaction.
“The Internet of Things transforms data into a valuable asset for new business models and the digitalization of our living and working environment. With thousands of data points in a building this can only be realized with battery-free wireless sensors. They can flexibly be placed wherever needed and expanded at any time”, says Armin Anders, Vice President Business Development, EnOcean GmbH. “Due to their maintenance-free operation, EnOcean’s self-powered wireless solutions provide highest reliability at the right cost-benefit ratio.”
At the show, EnOcean will be presenting self-powered wireless switches and sensors for maintenance-free applications optimized for building automation and providing reliable data to IoT systems, such as occupancy, temperature, humidity, and light level as well as acceleration sensing to determine the usage intensity of appliances and furnitures. These maintenance-free solutions use the EnOcean wireless standard (ISO/IEC 14543-3-1X) on the sub 1 GHz band. In addition, the technology provider will be showing its self-powered Easyfit sensor solutions for Bluetooth® lighting systems on 2.4 GHz. All products are based on EnOcean’s proven energy harvesting technology which enables sensors to be powered by kinetic energy, light or temperature differences, eliminating the need for wires and batteries. More information on EnOcean’s self-powered wireless sensor solutions for the Internet of Things can be found here.
For the digital transformation of buildings, EnOcean partners with leading IoT players such as IBM and Microsoft to enable flexible intelligent systems. Thereby an IoT gateway interconnects the self-powered sensors and actuators over the Internet with cloud-based platforms such as IBM Watson and Microsoft Azure. In these systems sensor data can be used to optimize the occupancy of space and thus the use of cost-intensive resources such as heating, air conditioning or lighting. This allows facility managers to develop and automate new services including space utilization, building asset or restroom management. Sensor-based control is also essential for insurance purposes. Operators of apartments suitable for seniors can use sensor data for various assisted living functionalities in the rent as part of a service package.
Wireless lighting networks are another IoT core application of EnOcean sensors and IoT platforms. They serve as the IoT data backbone in buildings and can transport information from a variety of sensors to make buildings smarter, safer and more comfortable. Energy harvesting sensors using the EnOcean standard can provide this data quickly, conveniently and without the need for maintenance, making EnOcean a major partner, enabling a key technology for IoT solutions and sustainable smart lighting control.
For intelligent lighting control, EnOcean partners with Bluetooth® lighting players including Fulham, Helvar, Sylvania, Casambi, Silvair, Vossloh-Schwabe Lighting Solutions, Wirepas and Xicato as well as IT players such as Aruba. They have integrated EnOcean’s Easyfit Bluetooth® switches with Near Field Communication (NFC) in their Bluetooth® lighting systems to offer lighting installers the possibility to easily retrofit switches at any place to directly control light scenes.
At IoT Solutions World Congress, EnOcean will also present samples of upcoming solar-based sensors for Bluetooth® lighting systems which will expand the company’s Easyfit Bluetooth® portfolio for further intelligent control abilities.
EnOcean is the pioneer of energy harvesting and sensor-to-cloud solutions for sustainable Internet of Things (IoT) applications. For more than 20 years, EnOcean has been producing maintenance-free wireless switches and sensors, which gain their energy from the surroundings – from movement, light, or temperature changes. The combination of miniaturized energy converters, ultra-low power electronics, robust radio technology, and open multi-protocol connectivity solutions based on open standards (EnOcean, Zigbee, Bluetooth®, BACnet, Modbus, LON, and IAP) forms the foundation for smart buildings, services, and production processes in the IoT. The sustainable EnOcean solutions are used in building automation, smart homes, LED lighting control, and industrial applications to optimize the CO2-footprint of buildings. EnOcean is a strong partner for more than 500 leading product manufacturers and has completed more than a million buildings worldwide.
